Very unusual grain pattern among wood veneers. Tamo Ash is predominantly found on the Northern Japanese Island of Hokkaido. It seems the very cold weather in winter coupled with strong winds give the grain a blistering effect that looks almost three dimensional. Most logs will only have a portion that has the figuring whilst the rest of the log will be just plain Japanese ash.
